Since our start in 2006 we have grown exponentially and have subsequently far outgrown our already limited resources. It is now more important than ever that we receive help from the public and private sector.

A Child

For just R 375 per month you can sponsor a child’s education. We will send you a picture of the child with his/ her birthday, grade etc as well as a quarterly newsletter and academic report.

Note that you are most welcome to sponsor multiple children, a good option for businesses as well. Payments can be made through either monthly payments or once-off donations for the total yearly amount.

Monthly amounts for international sponsors:

  • 35 USD
  • 25 £
  • 30 €
  • 40 AUD
  • 40 CAD

A Teacher

We value all our staff and aim to show this through fair remuneration. You can assist by contributing to a teacher’s salary. Additionally, arrangements can be made if you would like to contribute towards the further studies of one of our teachers.

Materials our teachers have requested for their classrooms include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Text books,
  • art supplies,
  • puzzles,
  • sleeping mats,
  • white boards,
  • science equipment,
  • electronic equipment (projectors etc).

For more information please feel free to contact us.

A Birthday

Every child in the school is unique and special, so we make it a must to celebrate each birthday. We celebrate with a cake, baked by a team of volunteers, delivered to school on the first Monday of each month and is shared among all the children of the school. Every birthday boy/ girl also receives a small gift bought by the school. For R150 you can “bless a birthday” and sponsor the cost of a cake and gift.

Reading

We encourage individuals to come and spend some time with our learners, especially the little ones, by reading to them or even assisting them with their reading. This helps them to learn English and stimulates their desire to read and thereby improves their overall reading skills. You can bring your own story book, or we can provide one for you.

Please be sure to contact us at least a week in advance in order to schedule a time with the teacher.

Birthday Bake

We provide each birthday boy/ girl with their own birthday cake and rely on volunteers to do the baking. A standard “beer box” recipe is followed which is easy to follow and inexpensive. This also ensures that similar size cakes are received. How you decorate the cake is up to you, but we do encourage maximum creativity. You can sponsor the baking supplies when signing up to bake the cake. Alternatively arrangements can be made to provide you with the baking supplies.

Once you have signed up you will be placed in contact with our baking team leader who will provide further information (recipe etc).

Scribing

Through scribing, volunteers from all sectors commit to assist us during test and exam weeks and we have seen remarkable improvement in these learners, not just in their academic results but also in their overall confidence. We have identified learners from grade 4 – 7 who require special assistance during test and exam week. These are the slow readers and writers who are unable to complete tests as quickly as their peers. A scribe is then allocated to one child, he/ she reads the test questions to the learner and writes down the answers given by the child. Once this is done the child is handed back the paper in order to rewrite answers in his/ her own handwriting.

Scribes are informed weeks before the tests and exams of time slots available in which to volunteer their time. They can sign up for specific days/times and will be allocated a child by the school, based on their availability.

Services and goods

We firmly believe that not all help has to be financial, it can be received in the way of services and goods. If you or your company works with a specific set of services and goods, please feel free to contact us. Keep in mind, however, that not all services or goods may not be used immediately.
